Looks like a lime burning kiln to me - we have many here in Cleveland & N. Yorkshire.

Is the soil in your area particularly acid? - could be the annswer.

Oh i'm sure we can keep it going a bit longer.

The've recently had to do some emergency archaeology along that stretch of cliffs, some Bronze age Barrows were about to fall into the sea.

Didn`t notice any barrows when walking there. Must have been in the fenced off area?

Couldn't find a link to it, it was something I read in the local paper. Might have been Thornecombe Beacon.

There are pockets of Quick sand, or rather quick mud, as you get further on towards Lyme.

About 20 years ago a womans dog came home covered in blue lias mud, they never found her body:(

Noo, the headland is a deathtrap once you get into the Lias series.

Lyme Regis Landslip Black Ven 2008 - YouTube

Trouble is, no one can come back to tell you where the dangerous bits are, on account of being dead and hidden.
