    Hi all,

Foxes have been digging holes and urinating next to my rose shrub and plants all year. Most of the leaves have fallen from the plants and the flowers have been affected as well.

I've tried scoot but it doesn't seem to be working - what are good deterrents and solutions?

And how best can I try and save the roses? They're pretty overgrown at the moment so I'm thinking of cutting them back now and putting down compost, bonemeal and rose feed? Will that work? To early? Anything else I can do?

    Thanks very much,
    Shy

    Overgrown? Not weedy with weeds?

Perhaps you could buy an (used?) electric fence energiser, and some line, use that, and when they get the message, sell it on (or keep it for other purposes)?

Don't put bonemeal down it attracts vermin, maybe you use it in other parts of the garden? Other organic fertilisers can also attract foxes such as blood and fish based products.

Male urine will deter them, it needs to be done regularly.

        Good evening I would try

You can use certain smells to deter foxes, they are reported to dislike the smell of chilli peppers and garlic so try infusing in boiling water and spraying around your garden as a fox repellent.

Tea bags can also be dabbed in peppermint or eucalyptus oil. “These smelly oils should last at least two weeks, even if it rains.” This tea bag trick can also be used to deter a number of other animals, including foxes.

I have foxes around here and although they might dig around a bit I doubt they would be the reason the leaves have fallen off your roses.
Maybe the roses need a thin out as you say they are overgrown, just wonder if its more to do with a fungal disease.
I agree bonemeal etc. will actually attract foxes and get them digging, an inorganic rose fertiliser would be better.
Would perhaps have been better done in spring before growth gets going, but you could still get a crop of flowers.
