Fruit cage help PLEASE!!

Hello!!:D

I have a small fruit cage which is covered in black netting. I am worried because birds keep flying into the side's of it when startled. There hasn't been any injured birds, but I am worried incase there could be.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to help the birds see the netting on my fruit cage & help to stop them flying into it?:cnfs:

A neighbour of mine has put strips of tin foil on a string and tied either end of the string such that it runs along in front of his beans. I think he's done it mostly to scare the birds away rather than to stop them hurting themselves, but I think the same thing could work for your scenario.

I also like Pam's CD idea. I've seen that sort of thing in other people's gardens. I think it can look like artwork as much as having a practical use, and when the sun catches them at the right angle you get all sorts of nice rainbow effects.

 

Clueless and Pamsdish are spot on about using old CDs.

I've used them for years and think (not sure, mind you) they deter pigeons. They don't deter my local blackbirds however, because this very afternoon, I watched a blackbird carefully duck under a dangling CD in order to check out my leek plants. Luckily, he didn't do them any harm.

The great thing about CDs is, as Clueless says, they are quite attractive and so I don't mind how long they stay up.
