This is really worrying me now , I don't want to Be a spoil sport or ruin anyone's hard work but may I please say I don't personally want this 'pub' section put on here. (I'm really really sorry if I've upset anyone by saying that, I'm not the sort of person to do that) I really love this forum, it gives me hours of pleasure & some days picks me up if I'm feeling a bit :gaah:! I personally feel that the forum could be ruined if this is added. I've made some really good friends on here & feel that I could tell you all anything, I know others feel the same, may I please ask that my opinion is taken into account & some more thought is put into this before it goes live?
I hope you all understand, :grphg:, & I truely hope I've not upset anyone :fingers crossed:

@Sheal......I HATE FACEBOOK! I do have an account but I hate it! I hate the bitching & the competition! Everyone on FACEBOOK is trying to out do each other! If I could ban it I would!
I read a report a few months ago about teenage depression....it's actually increased since Facebook was started! I can't find the link now.
Lovely to find someone who hates it as much as me! :grphg:

All my family are on Facebook Beckie and with the comments that come from them I really don't know why they bother. It's wrecked lives of people I know and also caused an issue between two of my three children which I'm glad to say they sorted out. It's a wicked place and I mean that in the true sense of the word. It seems to bring out the worst in many people, haven't they got better things to do with their lives?

I don't think GC Pub is a good idea. I joined because there was varied content both gardening related and other stuff and seemed friendly. Members tend to frequent various sections and threads according to their interests, I don't see that this feature adds anything.
          1) No; George was the Best football player
          2) No; Humphrys for Prime Minister
          3) No!!!
          4) That's illegal.

            Hi Beckie,

I'd like to say I agree with you totally, I've recently had some things happen in my life and there is someone on here (not mentioning names but you know who you are) who has helped me a lot.

I also think that this would be a bad idea.

A couple of points spring to my mind..........

What would happen to the main forums if someone set up a pub room say for examples sake on Roses.
Would the people running these rooms not bother giving advice on the main threads because they've paid for the privilege for running what would essentially be a private members club which you have to be accepted in to.

I don't see why we should have to pay to receive advice.

One of the best things about GC is the variety of people who are readily available to offer advice and or friendship.

Isn't this just going to evolve into a large amount of small separate forums, each one run by one person who thinks they're God and can say yay or nay to who joins, and therefore creating little cliques or groups of people.

Can you imagine what would happen if someone applied to be a member of a certain group but they were denied access.

Also I may be promoting a more selfish issue here but have you thought about how this would affect mobile phone users like myself (and I'm sure there are others out there).

As some of you will be aware I have issues with logging in, due to the use of a certain type of captcha that isn't compatible with a windows phone. So, therefore I have to remain logged in 24/7.

Now you've introduced lotto games that also can not be played on a touch screen phone.

I am worried that adding more and more items will just overload the system. Mobile phones can only hold so much data.

Wasn't it just last week that the system was down due to "experiencing unusually high traffic".

Aren't these changes just going to increase the amount of data storage etc needed and therefore create even more problems.

I hope I don't offend anyone but like Beckie, above, I think that G C as it is , is a fantastic site to visit, and I don' think it would achieve anything by trying to turn it into an " online theme park " for gardeners.

I've been reading the comments and anything which might encourage cliques I feel would be a bad idea. Yes I am of an age where change doesn't always appeal, however, while I am no expert on all things internet, I have been on a few sites before finding GC and was horrified at the foul behaviour of so many people. Hell I'm no angel and can swear with the best of them but even I was shocked by what some people will say behind the security on anonymity. A few years back I thought it might be fun as a wrinkly to join Sagazone (website of Saga) OMG it was horrific, so much so that eventually the site had to be closed down. Then I found GC which restored my faith in using the internet to increase my knowledge, give a bit of advice if I could and have a laugh with so many fun, friendly and knowledgeable folk. Anything which might threaten that would sadden me. I like most I would imagine? give a few bob every now and again towards the upkeep of GC. If this proposal is primarily a way of increasing the finances perhaps it would be better to advice us if GC's bank balance isn't looking very healthy.
