    @Upsydaisy, @michael Hewitt, @JWK. @...

    I am not into this, but as Criminology and Forensics is something I am interested in, we have been watching Bloodline Detectives and I find this fascinating. And watch out you criminals from before DNA ............ :yes:

    Anyone else watching this?

    I know I could put this in the What Are You Watching Thread ... but this is specific.

      I am interested in Genealogy because it can cover social history, psychology, Local history, as well as criminology etc all of which are fascinating, and by doing those through genealogy I find they become more relevant and interesting to me as an individual, instead of just facts on paper or a screen.

      I haven't seen that program but it sounds interesting to me, especially since a particular past member of my family might have been Jack the Ripper.

      One distant relation has written a book about it, and although the 'evidence' is circumstantial, there are lots of things that make one wonder.

      Actually I don't really think this past family member was Jack the Ripper, but from something I found in the National Library of Wales, I do think he knew who 'Jack' was.
      It all makes one wonder, and I enjoy mysteries, and solving them ... or maybe not and then they become mysteries for ever.

        Apparently I believe it is San Diego Police took four staff and had them trained rather than using the expensive companies that do it for them. In a couple of years they solved nine cold cases on their own withe their new Forensic Geneology Department . Now other forces are following suit.

          Thanks Vicky, I'll see if it's on Netflix we could watch it if so. There have been some high profile cold case reviews in the UK recently, the worst injustice was an innocent man jailed for over 20 years. Fascinating that it is possible now.

          I've done an Ancestry DNA test which connected me to a few distant cousins I never knew I had. The most mysterious is somewhere in the past an ancestor came from Australian aborigine tribes I have 2% of matching DNA, these newly found cousins have the same, most live in Australia.

          My brother also had a DNA test done via a different company, being a terrible hypochondriac he wanted to see what ailments he is likely to develop. That doesn't interest me, but we are all different.

            I have used a company for the DNA stuff a few years back. Very disappointed, they did not tell me anything I did not already know. My cousin used the same one about 2 years ago, they did not alert me that she was tied to me via my email.
