Good music that we might not have heard of

Hi all.

I'm always trying to broaden my music collection, so I had an idea. How about we recommend an artist, album, song or genre that we like that others might not have encountered.

To kick off, I've just been listening to one of my favourite albums. It is by The Wurzels. For most people when you mention the Wurzels, people immediately think of the brand new combined harvester one, or I am a cider drinker, but their 'A Taste Of The West' album, is full of less commercial songs, some taking on the style of old sea shanties or folk rock.

So what do we all like that isn't in the mainstream and well heard of?

 

Seen The Yeties live, not the Wurzles though.

Saw Ade Edmonson at Watchet Folk Festival last autumn, really enjoyed that.

I love the album Dublin to Dakar : A celtic Odussey (various artists)
but I found this one on YouTube.

I expect you know the music of Enya and Clannad - I love all that mystical celtic stuff. Check out Secret Garden.
Have you heard of the Cafe Del Mar compilations by Jose Padilla? Great stuff, more world music than celtic.

 

This lovely American lady is called Nanci Griffiths,I have been a follower of her for many years and have seen her several times and never fail to be moved.You may have heard her sing From A Distance one of her more popular songs,but she has written many beautiful songs.
