Grass growing from trunk?

    I have a Cordyline, obviously it has sheaths where the leaves have been cut or dropped off previously. I noticed there is grass growing in the gaps where the leaves were cut off previously.. is this a bad sign? Or fairly normal for grass to find its way into spaces when a plant is still growing?
