Early I was busy nailing things onto my shed roof but we had to go out. If it was summer time I'd go out and get on with it now, but its dark now.

Not a problem, I'll put the flood light on.

But, my instincts are telling me its night. So I'm wondering, is it socially acceptable to start banging and clattering in the garden at this time of day?

Depends on your neighbours, clue (is the short answer!).

But, you raise a very interesting point! Are things which appear to be socially acceptable, seasonal?

      Ultimately, it's 6.30pm ... go bang ;) (quietly  )

I you think it's too late or early, then it probably is.

You've got to use the plastic ones because the glass ones make too much noise

I had a feeling that would cause some intrigue:)

The shed roof lost most of its felt in a storm at the beginning of the year, but that's ok because I had plans for it anyway. I waterproofed it by cutting open empt plastic sacks (compost bags and the likes) to make sheets, and stapled them on.

Then I told the missus not to put the plastic recycling out until I've sorted through it. Today I rescued all the empty 4 pinter milk bottles, washed them out and cut them diagonally in half. The bottom halves had drain holes drilled but the top halves have a massive drain hole in them anyway, the top.

The cut up bottle halves have now been nailed strategically to the shed roof. They will retain compost, which in turn will provide a home for strawberry plants by spring time.

Its something I've been meaning to do for ages and age, and have been inspired by threads on here but unfortunately I can't remember who did it. At least one other person has already turned their shed roof over to strawberries, and there was a chap ages ago who spammed every forum with his article about using our plastic waste in the garden. He wrote a 400 page PDF (not joking either) but luckily he had a photo on page one of cut up milk bottles being used in the garden.
