Hello from Ademission in North Oxfordshire

    Hello everyone,

    Here is a quick introduction. I recently retired so that I could travel to my favourite holiday destinations without work restrictions. Then COVID19 came along and scuppered my plans. I've been piling my energy into my many house based hobbies of which gardening, and through this, a fascination with Chilis has surfaced.

    I grow a good selection of Chilis and Tomatoes in a small 8ft x 6ft greenhouse and I have a grow tent in my garage for starting seedlings. I am waiting for delivery of a 10ft x 12ft greenhouse that will be delivered next month and this will give me the space I need to be a little bit more ambitious. I grow hydroponically (mainly using Wilma systems and Deep Water) and using compost also. I try to get an early start to the year by using LED grow-lights to lengthen the growing season as some of the "Super-Hots" are slow to germinate and grow. Indoors, I grow a selection of house plants on window ledges and under grow-lights including Citrus, Herbs, Cacti and Succulents.

    Other hobbies include Photography, 3D Printing, Amateur Radio, Electronics, Cooking, Bread making.

        I've just been watering the chilis. At the same time I did an inventory of them: -

        SUPERHOTS
        Jay Peach Ghost Scorpion x 1

        7 Pot Primo (Yellow) x 1
        Trinidad Butch Taylor x 2
        Habanero Red x 3

        OTHERS

        Pretty soon I will run out of space so I hope the the new greenhouse is on time and not delayed.
        All of the above are now in compost after being started in hydro. I'm growing tomatoes in the Wilma systems so they are not available for the chilis.

        I'm interested to hear what types of Superhots you are growing this year.

          That's a very good question. The hottest chillies I've grown in previous years have been Habaneros. Even they were too hot for most of the cooking I do. I normally use Cayenne or Thai Birds Eye chilis for cooking. Jalapenos for poppers with bacon and cheese. This year, in anticipation of the larger greenhouse. I went up a level (or 2!) to the Superhots as an experiment. I intend to make some hot sauces using fermentation but lets see if I have success in getting the pods first. Its very noticeable how the leaves on the Superhots (Chinense) are larger (see Picture 1 & Picture 2 below of the 7 Pod Primo in a 12" pot). Also its the first time I've grown chilis under good grow-lights. The 3rd picture is a Habanero (Red) and it seems to be much more "stocky" thick stemmed than I am familiar with.
