That'll get me some "stick" from "They who must not be named", Adendoll!!:heehee: I have an overplanted and chaotic Cottage style garden with layers of bulbs in the borders overplanted with Hardy Perennials........and also a soft spot for Clematis with, having just succumbed to temptation again:wallbanging:, 106 around the garden, with some Armandii varieties of course:snork:. Gardening is about enjoyment and so is Gardeners Corner so I'm sure you'll like it here!!:coffee::snork:

Whoops! sorry for the stick! But it is still my favourite clematis!! Your garden sounds lovely!
I have just stipped back and painted our pebbledash concreted garage and ordered clematis armandii and appleblossom to scramble over it - hopefully quickly!
106 Clematis wow that is a big but wonderful soft spot!

They will grow quite quickly, Adendoll, and being evergreen will give the wall some interest. One drawback with Armandii varieties is that they can be slightly tender and don't like, in my experience, very cold winds. I've got one scrambling through an Acer Brilliantissimum and it's quite happy there but I have had others that didn't like where they were and either got damaged by wind scorch or I lost them. Like all plants, and gardening, it can be a matter of trial and error. If I may offer some advice plant it deeply a good six inches above the level of the pot it comes in. I've found out that all Clematis like to be planted deeply and, of course, watered frequently during the settling down period. They also like their "feet" in cool shade with their head in the Sun. Some people place flat stones over the area where the roots are to hold in moisture and keep the roots cool.:coffee::snork:

                  Hello and welcome Adendoll.

Best kind of garden in my opinion. Gardens have their very own character and attitude. We can try to fight them or we can work with them.

                  Same.

We never win against mother nature. Just that now and then she approves of our plans:)

Thanks I agree about gardens have there very own character and attitude - ours is like a truculent teenager most of the time and then you get those days or moments of compliance and sunshine! ahh heaven!
