    Red/purple leaves small yellow flowers

      This is very interesting indeed ... and I cannot help with identification although I have thought about it and trawled my books and the net.

      Bilbo may well be correct but yours is a tree and not a perennial .. but then again, maybe it's a very old perennial and is now a tree ... :scratch:

      It will be nice to see other thoughts on this.

      Victoria, if you look again at the pic you will see that there is a conifer behind. Infront of which is a perennial with chocolate brown leaves and yellow flowers.
      The yellow flowers belong to Lysimachia ciliata Firecracker. as id by Bilbo
