    HELP
    [IMG]by Dave Davison » 29 Oct 2014, 23:35

Writing in the hope that there will be an expert in all things electrical. The lawn mower shown below developed what I suspect is a fault with the switch but I'm led to believe a replacement is rather pricy so would like to incorporate another suitable switch on the handle BUT connecting the wires to a mains plug does not activate the motor. Can anyone enlighten me as it breaks my heart to have to fork out a lot of money to mend this one or trash it and buy a new one when -otherwise- it is very efficient. Regards Dave.

From that description it seems you are connecting your new switch direct to the mains, I think that is wrong. Your new switch needs to be connected to the same wires on the old switch and you must use the existing mains cable. I would respectfully suggest you isolate from the mains and check out all the connections to the old switch with a meter so you know what each wire is., if you feel uncomfortable with that then leave well alone.

From memory, there are two switches on a Flymo, and both have to be closed at the same time to allow current to flow.

What is the model number and I will see if I can dig up a schematic for it

Thinking about this a bit more, have you checked the brushes? That's more likely the problem with these machines and only cost a few pence to replace.
