    Hi,
Just to let you all know I have hurt my hip and wondered if there are any people out there with the same problem?
The reason I ask is that gardening is becoming difficult to do due to me not being able to get down to the ground to sort out many things we take for granted.
There seems to me to be no reason other than pain that prevents me getting down or up again.
I have a lot to do and no way of getting this done without help or aids to help in getting tasks completed.
Seeds to sow, weeding, digging, pruning, tying in , planting, watering, harvesting, all aspects of gardening seem to be eluding me of how to complete.
Not sure of how long the hip if at all will take to heal as the tendons have been twisted.
I have tools which allow me to do most things but bending crouching and the likes are most difficult to achieve.
Just realising that I am getting older and need to look forward instead of living in the now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Daisees is the expert on this - it's her job

I have a bad back and knee and try to get round some of the problems. As I can't bend much I have a number of different size plastic buckets and bins that I turn upside down and sit on when needing to get to the lower areas. If you do that you are likely to need to use a garden fork to lean on to help you get up and down.

If it's something that is going to get better then you may find it best to get someone in to do the digging for you as it will be a one-off.

        wish you better :dbgrtmb:

          Morning all,
I have been put on anti-inflammatories until this problem eases, so hopefully I shall be able to manoeuvre myself better later this week.
Rest is the priority at present and will be a bonus for work in general is rigorous and hard usually.
I thank you for your concerns and wish that there was more out ther I could do for you guys too.
It seems that we as people are not above helping each other out in times of need but others are takers and would not lift a finger to show the time of day.
As I am a limited number of people who can do the job, my bosses have asked me when I am likely to return. Like back problems, you do not know when the person is fit enough until the medical people decree this.
Not looking forward to the medical before I return as it is quite arduous and pressure related.
If I do return then I shall be doing a gradual return not jump straight in as age is not on my side now.
Will keep you all updated and if new treatment is out there I shall advise of this.

Landimad, I do not really know how to put this to you

First I do not know your age ?
So all I can say, it is better to be unemployed, for twenty years Than to spend all the rest of your life in a wheelchair, and the destruction of your and your partner/family's life
Do not soldier on before you are able, even if it means you lose your employment, you would lose your employment anyway just later, and then it would be too late
You would be unemployed and crippled, rather than unemployed and fit

Sorry for sounding so harsh Only I am living it

I know what you are saying Jack.

I'm 45yrs old, and my body is pretty much well and truly worn out. My hips are shot, my knees are shot, my ankles are shot, and so are my elbows and wrists. It isn't good, and only being able to work half days because the pain is now getting so bad, just isn't fun. Pain and severe lack of sleep is becoming very wearing.

Well, why are you not investigating joint replacements? Have you discussed this with your GP? Has s/he said you are too young or something?

Thanks for all your concerns, but it has not popped back into place and the doctor said that if it should go again to contact them.
If the need for replacement came to it, then I would consult a specialist to diagnose and see if it was viable to do.
Much has come from this episode, and push comes to shove the idea of getting older is starting to niggle me a bit due to the lack of assistance offered to the general public.
But on the other hand if you do not ask then you will never know.
At the end of the day we are none of us getting any younger, and the best thing is that medical science is progressing all the time.

Of course you would consult a specialist but finding a really good one is not that easy. Often GPs just refer people to the local hospital and that doesn't always get you the best chap. Hip and knee replacements are highly specialised procedures and I know there are an awful lot of chaps out there who just do a few now and again for interest's sake. That's not the kind of surgeon you want, specially not at your age.

If you want to explore either issue in depth and get the SP on the best in your area, I can help with that. You might also like to make a note of this forum where a considerable amount of information and support are readily available, even if you are only doing some ground research on a 'just in case' basis. Forewarned is forearmed.
