Why make a filum of a perfectly good cult series, if you're going to leave important bits out and then change the story around and put in bits that were never in it in the first place? And then change the ending?

Mind you, Bill Nighy was excellent as Slartibartfast.

Its cos the yoof wont accept the original, because its not theirs.

Same with War of the Worlds. They remade that too. Its a bit rubbish. Oh, and The Day The Earth Stood Still.

I saw it last night. I have to admit, it made me chuckle. "Thanks for the fish":heehee: I saw the original series but there are a lot of gaps in my memory - old age doesn't come alone:doh: Agree about Bill Nighy, he's brill:blue thumb:

I've got the CD version Armandii :)

I liked the Filum Freddy, I can see that they couldn't fit it all in in an hour and a half, just got niggled that on that basis, they put loads of stuff in that wasn't right.

Still not convinced that you're not Bill Nighy, especially after seeing you in "Love Actually" :snork:

The thing I like about old sci fi vs remakes and modern interpretations is that in the 'olden days' when special effects capabilities were extremely limited, and even 'basic' stuff like lighting and camera angles were, well, basic, there was only one option if a show was to be a success. It had to be good. It had to capture the viewer's imagination.

Its like Dr Who from when I was a kid. Some of the monsters were clearly just some cheap fabric thrown over a wooden frame and then dragged using a rope. Technically dire, so it meant that everything else in the production had to direct the mind to see that cheap fabric as a monster, and so it worked.

Nowadays you don't need imagination. Special effects negate the need for it. The viewer's mind is now so under worked that there is even time to pick out continuity errors or spot the technical blunder in some special effect (eg a shadow being wrong given the supposed scene, eg in Babylon 5 where a 2 second blunder left the ray traced shadow of the space station covering most of the planet it was orbiting, while the sun that would have cast that shadow was also present in the scene).

There's also modern actors vs ones from yesteryear. When I was a kid, Dr Who was just the doctor. He, The Doctor, was the star of the show, not Tom Baker or the other chaps from Dr Who of my youth. Same was true of every good program. I couldn't tell you who played Ford Prefect or Arthur Dent, because they were Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent to me. In the high budget remakes it is more like the high profile actors are themselves, playing the part of the character, as opposed to becoming the character.

Anyway, I'm bailing out now, because I've just realised I'm starting to sound old:)

          Hiya Zigs.

Love Actually, that's a Hugh Grant film? Ain't seen it, not a fan of Hugh Grant.
You're right about it not being right. As I recall the answer to everything came at the end of the series?

Whilst on the subject of Bill Nighy, I remember him playing the part of a singer(?) in a rock band that decide to get together again. Timothy Spall was in it too, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called:dunno:
