    Hi,

Bron and I are regulars at The Range in Barnsley; we don't bother with the gardening section because we have a great garden center near Wakefield called Hampson's. We do like The Range especially Bron does because it's got a very good crafts section and their pictures are excellent value; there is also The Range in Huddersfield but it's too near the town center; I wouldn't be forced into Huddersfield Town at gunpoint; I detest the place; a traffic warden for every car just waiting to pounce and now there are "bus gates" I just read about how bad it is; we shop out of towns and cities because car drivers these days are treated like criminals. The Range in Barnsley though is excellent for us with lots of free parking and we always visit just as the store opens; one thing I really dislike about The Range is their public address system and at times the music is overbearing but the actual store is crammed with decent items at fair prices so The Range gets a thumbs up from me. :dbgrtmb:

    Kind regards, Colin.

In springtime I did a wall of primulas. Got some from Homebase and some from The Range. The ones from The Range are still looking good (and flowering). they were a bit dearer than the Homebase ones, but much better.
Also bought 2 roses a couple of years ago from B&M - they were a massive £1.99 and I had no hopes for them... Now they almost cover one side of my pergola and have gorgeous flowers.... Very impressed!

It appears that Homebase are still going strong round here after having become Bunnings and then changed back.

Edinburgh has one store now,had4. Its a terrible store still.

Very expensive, poorly stocked, really bad stock variety, garden centre is very expensive poorly stocked.

Bathstore is always empty and looks poor. Carpet section is empty and yes expensive. Building section very expensive.

This company is a dead man walking. Would be so easy to fix it but the right people are just never put in charge of these companies.

How hard can it be to sell products at a competative price ?

The few left locally are always deserted and still trying to sell of stock reduced to clear from when they were owned by Bunnings.

I can't understand how they're supposed to be making a profit.

When Homebase folded here in Inverness last year, The Range opened in the same unit. It has the full range of stock and the plants in the garden centre are well looked after. I very rarely shop there though as I can find most things cheaper elsewhere.

They lost their way some years ago, and never really recovered sadly - the Bunning's debacle did not help one bit either, and in fact made things worse; one of our local stores is still in the Bunnings layout (I haven't been in the other store) and it is just a mess, with it being really hard to find what you want and on the odd occasion you do find what you want it is considerably more expensive than it would be elsewhere.

We have a thriving Homebase ,yes it is expensive but they have everything and you are spoiled for choice on all manner of building ,household ,gardening items.

Having said that I use Screwfix whenever I can .

Homebase are useless for having stock they dont deliver, but that's OK as if you go to buy in person the store will be deserted.
