Scientists David Hofman and Susan Solomon have announced that the hole in the ozone layer above the Antarctic has stopped expanding. They attribute this in some measure to the reduction in cfcs used in fridges etc.
Their news is not all good. If the present trend continues it will be 2060 before the hole would start closing, and global warming might delay this if it continues to accelerate.
But still- has some difference been made?

Not to be a party pooper but im glad!! Just because you wont be here to reap the benefits doesn't mean you shouldn't worry....imagine if gardeners planted for their lifetime, and not for future pleasure. Like MF's signature. [IMG]

Bettyblue,I am already recycling and composting like there's no tomorrow.I walk as much as I can so as not to pollute the atmosphere.

I never had kids{Not that we didn't want any}so no trees were destroyed making disposabal nappies for them which would still be in a landfill site for the next couple of hundred years.

I am having a green burial,so no energy is wasted burning my mortal remains.

I am growing trees from seed,so I can go and plant them back into the wild and I don't use compost containing peat,so I am doing my little bit to save the planet.

Also I don't smoke,so no pollution there, and I always clean up after my dog...and I never fly anywhere

I do worry, that is why I am going from Blonde to Grey...or is that just old age

Interesting about your burial, Kandy .. is it at that site at a crossroads, the name of which escapes me at the moment just down from a garden centre?

That's right LOL.I meant to tell you that the other week when you asked, but couldn't find the thread.Should have done it by PM.

The site is Greenwood and has a garden centre next door to the Funeral Directors who owns the site.By the time I pop me clogs the site will be full anyway,so it will be a burial at sea, from off the back of an Isle of Wight Ferry .

I would like to go and live over there, but will have to go on my own as my Husband would prefere Scotland and the blessed midges and rain...Sorry to all you Scots people. We love Scotland but not your midges and weather, unless it is snowing that is.

Why the IoW ... any connection or do you just like it there? Yes, Greenwood, only 10-15 minutes from us. Do you visit the Donkey Sanctuary when you're there?

We fell in love with the island when we first went there in 1992.It just feels right,it's a feeling I cannot explain.

There are over 500 miles of walking foot paths, coastal footpaths, downs to walk up and down...like Tennyson down.Red Squirrels forestry footpaths, horse riding, moors, dinasaur fossil hunting ,steam trains, cycle paths, sun, swimming, garden centres and nurseries botanical gardens, and lots more, all in the space of 25 miles. and yes we musn't forget the Donkeys, the rock shop and best of all the friendly people.

Certainly the Jewel in Englands Crown

True, and sad at the same time, Kandy ... we are selling our jewel there this October! King Edward IV & Queen Adelaide's summer house in Bonchurch. We have an apartment with a huge verandah facing the sea but we have to move on ....

Sadly, we won't see you there enjoying all the beauty of the island. It's truly a special, wonderful place and we shall miss it! :(

How romantic LOL.To own something that once belonged to Royalty.Unfortunatly I haven't quite got enough pennies to buy it off of you.

It must be a good place to live because Alan Titchmarsh,Ellen MacArthur, and Anneka Rice that I know of live on the Island.I am not sure if any one else who is famous lives there.

Though when you look at where you live now and the work you have put into it,I can see why you love your home in Portugal so much..

By the way,how are the two little ones getting on.I see by your photo's they are setting in quite well.

    Keep up the good work

They're fat and sassy, Kandy .. just like me!

I'll send you a pic of the IoW place ... possibly by PM because no one else would be interested. Do you know Bonchurch ... between Ventnor and Shanklin?
