Wife an I have been to the pub where by chance, we met a mutual childhood friend that neither of us have seen for a few years. Naturally we did the usual catch-up, where you living now? How's your mam? all that stuff.

I couldn't believe the story that emerged. His parents, a lovely couple that both wife and I have known since we were little, have lost their house. It had been fully paid off some years ago, but in a case of identity theft, someone had taken out a massive loan in the dad's name, and never paid it back. The coppers had investigated, and found evidence that the perpetrator was not even in this country, but the courts had ruled in favour of the creditors and so recovery was started by claiming their family home. A legal battle was had, but each legal challenge was costing around £10k per time. Ultimately they recovered some of their losses, but went from being in a lovely suburban semi in a nice a area to a very modest terraced shoe box. And this after spending 2 years in very low budget temporary accommodation because they had nowhere else.

So here's me, with my credit score not so perfect, and now thinking I'm grateful to Virgin Mobile for registering a default against me that is not valid (as I can prove I owe them nothing). I might just make it my policy to at least once a year default on something. Apart from my mortgage, I really don't need credit, and I certainly don't want some total stranger to take out debts under my name and lose me my house. If I can make myself un-credit-worthy, then that's one less thing to worry about.

Blimey Clue, that's outrageous  Your poor friends, that shouldn't happen to anyone, it was nothing to do with them if they'd had their id cloned

Just shows the law in this country is unfair and as corrupt as the con men.

Law, and the legal system just seem to lack common sense.
I wouldn't trust a lawyer as far as I could throw him/her, they are a bunch of jobsworths.
And the job is always worth a packet.
