Hi there I bought a couple of propegators today and some packets containing parsley, coriander and basil.

I would like start them off from seeds and then re pot them in some planters so they grow all summer..

    1) Do I start planting them on a weekly basis so they grow staggered throughout the summer....?

    2) Do I need the propegators... or can I grow them straight from pots.

    3) How can I keep them snail and ant free without polluting the herbs.. (I currently use slug pellets around the edges of my pots in the garden to keep the snails off my plants).

    4) How many seeds at a time should I sow?

Any other advice would be helpful.. :thumb:

Are there resources on here that give you step by step guides of things you should be doing when you plant herbs for comsumption all summer?

    Thanks :)

    Hi there

I don't know about coriander and basil as I've just thrown a load of seeds into two pots of compost to see what happens. Parsley I started last year but I can't rememcer if I threw seeds in or put one I'd bought in Tesco into a bigger pot (sorry, put it down to age). Anyway it flourished and we've been using it ever since. It's really healthy and even survived a couple of frosts when I was caught out and forgot to put it in my plastic greenhouse thingy overnight. Give it a whirl, as the seeds are fairly inexpensive so if it goes belly up you can try again. Hope this helps a little but I'm new to this growing m'larky myself.

I grow 3 x 5" pots of Basil with 3 plants in each. One pot is in the kitchen and the Chef :) takes what she wants, and when the plant looks a complete wreck I put it in the greenhouse and give Chef the best of the remaining two. By the time the third one has been murdered :) the first one has sprouted again and goes back to the kitchen.

    Parsley should work the same.

Coriander I don't know - possibly better planted outside.
