    What should Tansy smell like?

Very pungent, sweet, sharp. Nothing else like it really. One of the bitter herbs of the Passover, used as a flavouring at lent. Probably because it tastes 'orrible. The essential oil is toxic as far as I remember.

Thanks Ziggy! The damned stuff is going. Quick google said "can be invasive in right circumstances", and those roots are definitely stretching their legs.

I quite like it, makes a nice show. Never thought of it as invasive, just seen clumps of it in herb gardens.

It can be invasive both from an ever expanding clump and by seed. I like it, but it does need to be watched. Also it is pollinated, or so it seems, by blue-bottles. The flowers are always covered in flies in our garden.

Not really my thing from the photos.............

The roots have disappeared under the paving slabs and come up the other side. I lifted the slabs to check it out.:ouch1:
