    Hi,
can anyone ID these please? My first guess was Verbena hastata as I had them last year for the first time, but after a quick google I'm not sure.

They are greyish, hairy and now at size where my palm wouldn't cover the rosette (sorry forgot scale in the photos).

    Thanks!

It looks just like one in my garden and I think it's a poppy. I really need to water it as it's bone dry.

Yes- that makes perfect sense and also explains why it looked so familiar :)

This is an old house (100 years or so), and even though the last owners didn't grow anything but grass and paving slabs, there are clear signs of older cultivation in the layers of the soil. Poppies would be just the plant to pop up once the soil has been well dug.

We also discovered Scillas this spring, certainly not there the last one and not planted.

The neighbours are not really growing anything either so I believe it's the soil itself donating us a bit of this and that (mainly Docks ).

        Thanks all!
