I "found" and planted this little bulb last year and today it bloomed ... what is it please? Certainly not something I will keep.

    Ornithogalum ?
In my parents' garden they spread a lot and looked pretty in clumps. I haven't seen them to buy for years.

Oh, Michael, it could well be with hindsight. But this is strange. I had a big clump of the Star of Bethlehem back in 2008 at the bottom of the garden. Here is a pic ...

Wow, think I will keep and nurture it. Thank you. Vxx

I can see in your photo the cluster of buds at the top of the stem, that's exactly how I remember them ...

I am actually still uncertain on this. Firstly the flowers are really small compared to the Stars of Bethlehem I had. Secondly they do not have green on the back. Thirdly, they are on exceptionally long stems with a cluster of blooms at the top. And last, but not least, I put it in a photo app and all sorts of Alliums came up, but I could not smell garlic on the leaves. Also Leucojum vernum, which I don't think it is.

Maybe it would help to see the leaves..see the flowers as they are when growing..do they dangle down or face upwards..etc.

It is nothing like Leucojum vernum which here people confuse with snowdrops as they are in flower at the same time...see first pic GALANTHUS NIVALIS TOP LEUCOJUM VERNUM BOTTOM 06-03-2020 10-50-15.JPG LEUCOJUM VERNUM 12-02-2011 11-44-19.JPG LEUCOJUM VERNUM 22-02-2016 13-16-56.JPG LEUCOJUM VERNUM 25-02-2021 16-05-54.JPG

The leaves are skinny and splayed on the soil. The flowers face more upwards not drooping like above and I was holding them on the long (12" at least) stem. There are two stems each with only a few flowers now dying. This is the closest I have come so far ...
