Hi MF, everything looks identical about these apart from the long stinger on the rear, my ones don't have that (thankfully) I'm a bit wary of going into the greenhouse now. Any ideas on what I should do?
    Thanks
    Carol

Relax Dalbuie, they won't sting you [IMG] Ichneumons are related to wasps and ants, but are neither. They help keep down caterpillar pests like those of the Cabbage White.

Pretty sure that the ones in your photos are Ichneumon suspiciosus :D

We certainly had those flying ants in the garden the other day MF and there were hundreds of them, they were a lot bigger and all black than the ones in my greenhouse but I think Hornbeam has the right one. It was a bit alarming seeing so many of them in there, hope they don't cause any damage. Many thanks to you both. :D
