Last winter the cold (or wet?) made my 12 foot cordyline tree loose it's leaves on all 3 trunks. I waited this summer to see if anything would grow back but there's no sign of any life at all.

So is it definitely dead? If so I would prefer to get rid of it and plant another tree but it is a shame as it cost me a reasonable amount of money and it must be quite old to be that tall :(

I think it is the Cordyline Australis if that helps?

Are you sure there's nothing coming from the base at all?

It'll regrow from the base, not from the very top.

Well, unfortunately, M, if it hasn't shown any growth this year I'm afraid it is dead.:cry3::cry3:
While it' no consolation, I know, you're not the only one to have lost a Cordyline this year. I think there must be hundreds of gardeners, including me, who lost a treasured Cordyline. Mine was over 20 years old and had survived some really bad Winters but I think that the accumulating effect of the last 2 Winters was just too much for it. You'll have to get another one.:D

I saw every cordyline in the neighbourhood apparently 'killed' by the last two winters but throughout this summer most that I can see have re-grown from the base, some have managed just one or two new plants to about a foot tall, but I have seen one or two that were 20+ year old specimens producing about 8 very healthy looking plants around the base which are already about 3ft tall.

I suppose the question is 'if' we get a bad cold spell this winter will it kill these young plants shooting from the base off, effectively killing the whole plant once and for all???

Oh dear, sounds like it's had it then - and the other one in a pot (much smaller only 6' total).

At least I can think what to plant there next......
