A statue was erected as a memorial tribute to 47 dead miners who lost their lives 50 years ago in the town of moodiesburn in north lanarkshire in scotland.it was called "the auchengeich memorial". The statue was unveiled on september 20th this year and on november 19th this year(two months later) it was stolen from the memorial site!.
The statue was of a miner (in full working gear) it cost £80,000. Imagine the work and the hours these local people have spent to collect money from various areas to build this memorial.the statue was cast from half a ton of bronze embedded and bolted down!.the memorial had all the names of the miners engraved in a circle around the statue and on the day it was stolen they were going to plant trees around the area. Imagine their shock!! These people must have felt sick.
    I know i do. Music. :(:(:(:(:(:(

Yes it is sick. Some people have no common decency these days.

An even worse example happened in Sheffield a few weeks ago. Some disgusting drunken scum urinated on the cenotaph in the centre of town. As if that in its self is not bad enough, as it was approaching Remembrance Sunday, the cenotaph had lots of poppies and personal handwritten messages around it at the time. The lad was caught, had been to court where at least he pleaded guilty and apologised, and has been told that he may be facing a custodial sentence. And so he should too.

Yes, that is truly shocking Music - and that too Clueless.
That statue will just be melted down for bronze.
I hope they catch the culprits and they get what they deserve.

This sort of thing makes my blood boil. What is wrong with these people??? :(:(:

It is a similar sick feeling when graves get decimated and spoiled.

Thank goodness there are lovely people in this world who do contribute, they restore my faith in human nature :)

I think this youth in question has been been punished already, with the abuse he received in the Daily Mail comments and other newspapers. Not something he's going to forget in a hurry, having his face (and other bits!) splashed across the countries press, both in paper and online, not just once, but repeatedly. I totally agree that what he did was appalling, but in all honesty, what would a custodial sentence achieve, apart from satisfying some of those calling for his blood?

The whole point of 'justice' is to reassure the public that unacceptable behaviour has been dealt with, and to remind the public that unacceptable behaviour will be punished.

I agree that a custodial sentence wouldn't do much in the way of rehabilitation, but it would have drummed home the seriousness of what he did. He didn't just urinate in public, he symbolically urinated on fallen soldiers and their families.

I do agree though that he has been punished now, and will continue to be for a long time. He may well get kicked off his course at university, and a lot of people, possibly including prospective employers, will have followed the story. Even if they haven't, he will now have a criminal record which will exclude him from many jobs for a long time.

Moving on to the bigger picture, I think something should be done about this 'Carnage UK' company. I've always thought of university students as a bit wet behind the ears, youngsters many of whom are away from home without their parents for the first time. They are an easily led bunch, perhaps because of the insecurity of having to fend for themselves, away from home, for the first time (I know they are easily led, because as a young single streetwise local lad when I was at uni, I found the female students easier to 'befriend' than the local lasses). This makes them easy pickings for companies that want to relieve them of their pocket money, and what better way than to get them absolutely hammered on alcohol.
