    Hi All.

I am sprucing up the kitchen and we want to replace all the cupboard doors, work top, sink and new flooring. I originally got the kitchen from Homebase, we have had a look in there, but you have to buy the whole unit not just the door. Has anyone replaced the doors on a Homebase kitchen? I have looked else where and the door heights are all different.

    Rusty.

    Have you tried Wickes?

I must admit, I always thought kitchen unit doors were pretty much standard size.

I've looked on line, but there are not many details about doors on there own at wickes. I will have to go in next weekend. I like you thought they were all a standard size. When we were in Homebase the assistant told us that the height of the doors are different. I thought he was just saying this, so that we would get the doors there, but the doors we like are in B&Q and they are 10mm taller. This would be ok for base units, but not wall units.

What dimensions are you after? Can't the ones you like just overlap downwards by the extra 10mm on the wall unit or adjust the carcass slightly?

Also saw this place - http://www.kitchendoorworkshop.co.uk/ . I have no experience of them but perhaps an option.

I'm pondering ripping out my wall units at the mo to replace with ones that go up to the ceiling instead of leaving a foot of wasted space. Have also just measured my existing doors at 590x595mm (w x h) and can't find any to fit!

I looked into this a few years ago, but found that those companies offering to revamp your kitchen by just replacing the doors worked out just as expensive as buying new units. Things might be better now.

        Thanks for the replies.

Kristen - I don't want to make my own as we want white gloss. I have also got hall stairs and landing, living room, dining room, kitchen and utility room to decorate. 46 sq meters of wooden and tiled floor to put down and all the wood work to replace. So making doors will take too long as I want it all done in a couple of weeks

Loofah - we will have cornice top and bottom of wall cupboards, but suppose I could drop a board top or bottom to make up the 10mm. The link you gave me could be promising.

I will check out Howdens at the weekend.

        Rusty

A frame and panel door is pretty easy to make once you have the tools and technique. That's what we are planning to do with our kitchen. Buy yourself a router and you will have it done even quicker. Although I hate routers and would rather do it buy hand. Solid wood will last a lot longer than veneer and can be repainted a different colour in the future if need be.

Just remember to acclimatise it to the kitchen before you build them.

Possibly the most important tip if making your own!
