I have a problem with a laurel bush that has been in my garden for about 10 years , so is firmly established. Suddenly, the leaves have gone really pale and some have turned a bit brown and died. I might add that I have got an identical one planted about 5 metres away and that is in perfect condition.

Any idea what I can do, and can I rescue it and get it back for this summer??

I'd suggest doing the scratch test of the bark in various places.
It looks to me like its died.
