As some of you may recall, I got two lovely lavatera from Crocus recently, and planted them out in my back garden against the back fence.

Night before last, our dog chased a cat who shot up onto the back fence and sat there swiping at the dog as he jumped and jumped trying to get the cat - the ned result was a completely mangled lupin plant, and as I discovered this morning a snapped stem on the lavatera, which is carrying flowers and buds.

I have cut it off, and have trimmed the bottom of the stem to an angled cut just below a point where there were leaves, have removed the bottom leaves, and have shoved it into a pot of compost. (Ironically, I loaned my rooting powder, and haven't had it back, so had nothing to do to encourage roots.

Assuming that I keep it well watered, what is the chances of this 'cutting' actually becoming a viable plant?

Very reasonable, they root like billy-o in my experience. Might be best to remove any buds as well. How big is it overall?

Its about two foot tall, roughly - has one flower on it, and a handful of buds. Its gone a bit floppy now (understandably), so I think I'll stick it into the shade tomorrow then its not going to dry out too fast and I can give it a soaking every night. Nothing to lose I suppose.

Cut it off at the top and remove any flower buds and it should root OK.
I just stick a decent stem in the ground and they seem to root satisfactorily almost every time.
If only all plants were as easy as Leveteria to propogate.

Is it not too hot for rooting cuttings? Normally if i take cuttings when its warm they instantly wilt. If only it had happened a week ago...
