Lower than low - Can you help?

Earlier this evening, I had a police officer at the door. He told me that one of my neighbours had been ripped off on Wednesday by some men in a van who extorted money out of him on the premise that they were going to repair/renovate his roof.

The neighbour concerned is a proud gardener (his roses are utterly beautiful) in his 80's, and these rotten bar-stewards have fleeced him to the tune of £5000! The cheeky sods made two visits to obtain this amount of cash.

The police officer was doing his best, and was going round every door in the street in the hope that someone had seen anything, but because it happened during the day, many of the rest of the neighbours were out at work (myself included).

Sadly, I have a feeling that it is members of the travelling community who are responsible - on Monday, I noticed that they had 'moved in' to a local park just around the corner; very strategic they are too, with loads of caravans and no cars to tow them.... I have no idea what happened, but on Thursday they all disappeared. Of course, I have absolutely no proof that it was the travellers that fleeced this elderly gent, but it seems too much of a coincidence to me.

I only wish I was a roofer - if I was, I would to and do whatever was needed to his roof for free.

Really pee's me off things like this.

 

I am so incensed by this, I have started a Just Giving campaign - every penny raised will go to easing the pain of my elderly neighbour.
