Seed Compost would do I think.

But plant the seeds on edge (not flat).

    Hi Tony

Many thank's for your prompt reply,my q relates to the fact that i can get the seeds to germinate no probs but when they get to approx 3" tall they just keel over & die.As i am new to this site would you be so kind as to enquire from your friends what the prob may be.
    Thank's in anticipation
    Dai

Hi Dai, if you are sowing them now?
    That could be the problem.

Melons like heat and bright light, both in short supply right now.

I'd wait at least until April for sowing and even then only if you have a greenhouse.

Good evening Dai and welcome to the site.:dbgrtmb: I agree with Pete, you are a couple of months early, so hang fire for a bit. A multi purpose compost will do just fine, by the way.
