My best Clemati (sic) have now gone over, but they lasted ages in the cool weather. Marie Boisselot and C durandii. White and deep blue together. Fab.

My broader leaf clematis are all suffering from wilt this year, I was going to take them out and bin them after the growing season as this condition is common in the larger leaf/flower plants but I saw Alan Titchmarsh on tv the other day and he was commenting on wilt and said if the plant is set deep it should reduce the risk of wilt infection. Will try that before I bin anything.

In my experience, what people think is wilt is usually drought.
They are such massively thirsty plants/vines that at the slightest let-up in enough water to the bottom of their rootball they get the browny black leaves and die back.
When you water a clem use the hosepipe, lay it on the ground near it and let it have a slow speed drink for at least 5 minutes and do this weekly, don't use a watering can because you'd need to be refilling the thing about 6 times before the base of the roots will benefit.
The drought we've had this year will have affected clems very badly.

These blooms have lasted SO long.
I think I put them up on the Looking Good in May thread, and here they are heading into July.
Its in a large pot around the kitchen window.

I hacked off a huge bit last summer and it is doing great in the main garden, although it has been out competed by my neighbours honey suckle.

But that honeysuckle is gonna GET IT this autumn.

That's a good sized plant and it obviously likes its position there, is it a Jackmannii ?

Look at what i bought yesterday ....
Clematis Empress ™ - Clematis plants from Raymond Evison Clematis
It was in the reduced section of a garden centre because it had been cut back by a quarter and didn't look that great - but i know that it'll look brilliant in no time at all :hapfeet:
