@Michael Hewett - the only caveat I would add is to make sure you've got local copies of any photos from that thread, purely as a "just in case" -- whilst all the threads will migrate over, as with any data transfer process, there is always a risk that something can go wrong. Veterans of the forum will remember there was a significant crash back around 2012/2013-ish and whilst we were able to stitch things back together, it took a long old time.

I must stress that things are wholly different now and we are not expecting any issues at all - however, I personally am always a bit risk averse, so if you can give yourself a bit of "insurance" it is never a bad thing.

In terms of text colouring, the honest answer is that we don't yet know as we've not seen it in operatoin yet - but, having seen other Xenforo forums, it seems that text colouring is a fairly widespread thing, so I anticipate it to be retained.

      Hello @Fat Controller

You say that it would be prudent to Backup any Photos prior to the Switch, however, with a Thread such as 'My Garden Progress' Thread this would be nigh on impossible to do.

      Suggestions.....

      Thanks in advance

      Kevin

@Michael Hewett following @Fat Controller reply I will make a note when we test the new software. Like you there are some colour combinations I like and some I struggle to read.

No doubt there will be different themes in the new software which means individuals can pick how they like to view the forum. That doesn't affect how others view it. I hadn't noticed you use a purple colour it's very subtle

Thanks, I have copies on my computer but they are mixed up with other photos, but in the thread they are all together, with writing as well as comments from other people.

        This is the purple,
and this is the black. There isn't much of a difference but to me it's actually enough to help my eyes.
        Thank you all

It would only be required if you do not have the photos that you uploaded originally - if you have deleted them from your local storage or device, then the only option would be to go to the thread, and right click on an image, select 'Save as' and then save that image to your device.. repeat for each image in turn.

As stated, this is purely for an 'insurance' as we are fully expecting all threads, complete with images, to transfer across.

            Impossible? No

Time consuming? Possibly, depends on number of images

As a matter of good practice always keep your originals on your own devices. Uploaded images to here and other websites will compress the size and lose quality. So if you click and save back to your own pc for example, that photo will be much poorer quality compared to the original.

If you want to save a thread with both images and the text descriptions you can use your browser to Print to PDF, page by page.

There are 3rd party tools to download webpages, these will require some technical expertise and sharing of your log on credentials. Personally I wouldn't go down that route only as a last resort and it's not something we can help with.

              Hello @JWK

              Thanks for the Reply.

I have the Main Photos, stored in Adobe Lightroom, it is only the One Off Photos that I do not have Stored Locally.

I notice that in the Advanced Search there is the Option to Search for Media or Photos, however, doing so gives No Results, for either Option, any ideas as to why?

              Thanks in advance

I've never uploaded pictures to here without keeping the originals.
I don't even store pictures on the cloud, all mine are on a separate hard drive and doubled up on the PC memory.

                Hi,

Just like to ask about PM / Conversations, assume they will be migrated across, though most of our PMs are obselete anyway, apart from one long one that also has many photos sent to us.

Is there a way we can download /save a copy of the conversation with the photos to our pc ?

Often wondered how GC forum was funded as never seem to be bombarded with Ads, do donations cover everything ?

I'd guess that you'd have to know the exact filename that the image was uploaded with for it to be able to be found. I've never used that feature though, so not 100% certain.

We anticipate that PM's will copy across too, but cannot give a cast iron guarantee - - I will ask the question of the tech guru though, see what his thoughts are.

I'm not aware of any way, beyond perhaps printing to PDF from your browser, that they can be downloaded. This is not something we'd be able to assist with either sadly as PM's are exactly as the name suggests, Private, so only the people involved in the conversation can see them.

Thanks, that does work :dbgrtmb: though it will only accept one Page at a time, so just another 30 pages to go.

The process will take as long as it takes. I would far rather have a forum which had been thoroughly tested and with as few bugs as possible, than one constructed to a date deadline and put live irrespective of its state. I worked with too many of them as a Civil Servant!

@ricky101 - confirmation received that PM's should (barring any faults/problems) all transfer over.
