    Hi Guys

I am new to the forum so hi.

I have had 2 mini privet trees in container pots outside my patio doors for the last year. In the last few weeks the leaves have turned brown and they don't look very well.

I have repotted with new compost but it hasn't made any difference.

If you can help me I would be most grateful as they where a wedding present and would love to rescue them.

I've attached 3 pictures for you to view (if it helps).

    Kind Regards

    Matthew Lomax

Hello Matthew and welcome to GC.

You don't say your location, which is helpful if we know where you are, but with the recent 'heatwave' in the UK perhaps it is a lack of water ... pots need watering daily. Also they need a little fertilising as being in a pot the nutrients are often lost and perhaps your repotting was a little late.

Hopefully someone with more UK knowledge (I've been gone for 10 years) will come along and advise ... but I wish you luck in reviving these precious gifts.

Well if they were mine I would pot them into bigger pots, I bet if you tip one out it is well pot bound. I tried growing trees in pots once and the same thing happened, they are trees after all and have a big root system. If when you tip it out it doesn't need repotting then give it a liquid feed of nitrogen.
    Good luck with your trees.

I don't think they're Privet. Looks more like Box (Buxus).

Hi Lomeo. judging by your photo i Agree they look like Box Trees and i also agree they require a larger pot.
also your pots look like plastic pots, i could be mistaken ,but i think i see mould shapes on the bottom/side.
your trees by the size of them definitely are crying out for a much larger pot to spread their roots. your box trees look as if they are lacking water but this could be because the pots are too small and restricting the growth of the roots and they are being choked. if these were my trees i would have them in large ceramic
or terracotta pots which hold water in the pots structure, plastic is too severe not porous. all the best of luck with your Trees (as i know some can be expensive) music .
