My Son in Law and Daughter have been informed that just over £900 as been taken from their account via their Debit card.
Luckily they are covered for this and was picked up quickly by their bank . The bank as frozen their account so they now have no money for Christmas.
They think the card as been cloned.
They were phoned early yesterday morning with the news asking if it was they who had suddenly spent all that money within 2 days on things they would not normaly use the account for.
Anyone no how long it takes to sort out and get the money back?

I'm sure they will get the money back in the end , they were going Food & Christmas shopping on Sunday until they got the phone call, the rest of the money is their holiday savings.
They both work hard with full time jobs.
It just gets you so mad that someone can come and take your hard earned money from you.
They think it may have happend at the petrol station.
Because they have both been at work all week thats the only place the card was used.
Unless it happend a while ago and they have only just started to use it.
You think this chip and pin is safe.
    Obviously not so.

I am so sorry to hear this....why do these things always happen before the holidays...I suppose the thief will have a great holiday at the expense of your family.

One could hope that they will have an even longer holiday one day.......at the expense of the tax payer. Maybe not for this but.. one lives in hope.

It's terrible to happen any time of the year but at christmas it hits you hardest, it's a good job that the bank pick the transactions up so quick so that's a plus as far as that goes.

One would really think that having this chip and pin system would stop things like this happening!

I few years back (just before chip and pin)hubbie and I did an few shoping transactions I think four in one day which was strange for us as we like to go to the bank and get cash.

Anyhow we got 'carded' so to speak when we went into comet to pick up a cheap kettle, we were there waiting to pay when a large group of floor staff surrounded us and even took our photo as 'they' thought we had nicked the card that we were using...I have never been so embarrassed in my life and the 'staff' didn't even apologize in the way that they treated us after a phone call sorted the mix-up out...needless to say we don't go to comet anymore we take our custom elsewhere.
Like Currys at least we get 10% off there!

I had this happen to me earlier in the year ..... But not with a debit card.

One of my Bank statements must have gone 'astray' (the account is still held under my parents address), the thief went into Abbey with said statement and my 'Credit card' (I don't have one) and my driving license (which is held at my current address!!) , so obviously they had forged my driving license and a credit card. These 3 items (in Abbey words) are proof of ownership of the account !!!!

The thief withdrew £500 cash, and transferred another £500 out to another account. My mortgage is with Abbey also, and they froze my account, with quite a bit of funds in there ...... 3 months later, they transfer my money to a new account, 2 weeks later, they then let me know the Account details  , so because of this, I had got 3 months in arrears because my money was trapped, and Abbey kept hounding me all along for payment, they didn't seem to want to know about my situation, and kept asking for 'token' payments, in the end I told them to sort it out, when they did (and they could see funds where available) they would get paid.

As I say, got sorted in the end, but getting there was a pain.
