First, a Pansy - wondering which variety it is as it was bought in a tray of many at a garden centre last year:

Also, a very small wild flower (of which I have a number in my garden):

      00000000000000000000000000015810Hi Madhedger,

The Pansy probably hasn't got a variety name. Usually when you buy bedding plants like these in a tray they're grown from seed so you have to take pot luck on what you get.

I must admit that I like it though, I prefer the self coloured ones to the ones that have " faces " on them.

Ah, I see - I had assumed that all pansy varieties had a name, but no worries.

The reason I asked is that even though I dead head it regularly (and many others) I missed a seed pod on this - found it and it was about to burst so took it indoors, covered in with some paper and sure enough, it burst. So I now have seeds from this variety. However, isn't it the case that the plants grown from these seeds won't necessarily produce flowers of the same colour as the parent plant (if it was a hybrid)?

What you will have when the seeds germinate will be lots of NEW varieties. So, you will be able to name them, if you think they are good enough.
