I shall have my first corn on the cob this year for dinner tonight ... compliments of my friend who grows veggies and I help eat them! [IMG]

However, on husking the one a while ago, I discovered not one but two, yes, TWO ears of corn in the husk ... is this where baby sweetcorn comes from ?????????

Pray tell pete, how do you (note I don't say "we") know it didn't get pollinated? [IMG]

Is it because it's white and not yellow? Aren't the little Chinese teeney weeney corns whitish? I have to know the answers to these important questions because my friend will want to know these answers. How will he know a "girl" corn from a "boy" corn? Will he need a paintbrush or will a feather boa suffice? He knows less about these things than me ... so you can just imagine ... [IMG]

By the way, the corn was ace, having been picked today, smothered in Azorean butter (a bit like Cornish or Welsh but not quite so rich) and lots of black pepper. I even marginally cooked the little blighter and it was tender but tasteless ... a bit like the little Chinese ones! :D

Perhaps I was wrong, from the pic it looked like the corn hadn't formed, perhaps it had but was not ripe, unlike the main cob.
