    Hi Chris,
I companion plant allot this is what I do & have very good results.:)
Here is the regime I use....

    • I grow French marigolds among tomatoes l also plant some in my late broad beans. Marigolds emit a strong odour that will repel greenfly and blackfly.
    • Sage does very well with carrots or plants in the cabbage family to ward off pests. Both have strong scents that drive away each other's pests.
    • I always plant nasturtiums with cabbages - they're a magnet for caterpillars that will then leave the cabbages alone.
    • I plant Garlic among roses to ward off aphids.
    • If you plant carrots and leeks together on the allotment or vegetable patch to protect against a number of pests. Leeks repel carrot fly and carrots repel onion fly and leek moth.
Just always make sure your companion plants are planted at the same time as your edible crops to prevent pests from getting a foothold...:thmb:

Marley I do the same, (apart from the sage) Im just not sure if there really is a benefit, and that the good results arent just from general good care ....the RHS did quite a big trial this year on Marigolds and their ability to repel pests, unfortunatly they couldnt find anything in it., and as I said in the blog I have had carrot root fly with garlick planted through them. I want to believe in it but I have recently been involved in setting up some fruit and veg gardens and Im not sure I can recomend it as a seriouse technique. Ill always plant Marigolds on my allotment because I love them but I cant ignore the science and that says they dont work.

What I do believe is that having a diverse range of plants is good in creating a diverse eco system, and of course flowers attract pollinators , what im not sure about is companion plantings ability to ward off pests or about some of the suggested symbiotic relationships
