Are your favourite roses in your gardens ones which you have chosen and planted yourselves, or do they include ones which 'came with the house' as it were?

I have a good mix of both. I inherited a number of elderly roses which I have rehabilitated and nursed back to their prime over several years. The gold/ orange rose and the pink must easily be 40 plus years old.

Sadly I had to dig up 2 ancient roses last year neither of which had flowered since before I went to university. I lavished them with food and mulches but nada.

The white climber is maybe 10 years old, I planted it as a young teen from my birthday money. :) My garden is filled with cuttings from family and bargains Ive picked up.

This past February I bought a knackered and tattered bare root rose 'silver jubilee' from a market stall for the handsome price of 50 pence. It is currently sending up lots of strong shoots and looking lush!
Its only a foot high atm, but its already one of my favourite things! I cant wait! 50pence- Get in!

    Silver Jubilee- eventually.

Edited to add a pic of my wee little 50p silver jubilee. And look no black spot- yet!

Despite the weather my climber (iceberg I think) is blooming :) Its branches have been trained over an 8 metre stretch of fence.

It brightens up a dark, shady area of the garden. During the summer months, it is almost entirely shaded out by a wall of full size sycamores.

Oh thanks guys. :D Next time Im in the garden I shall pass on your compliments!

Ive loved looking at both your roses.

Im hunting for a 'guinea' climber (or similar) this weekend, after admiring and casting envious eyes at Woo's wonderful climber.

This site is costing me money! :D

:rotfl: Isn't gardening fun Melinda, we are all so keen to get what we want it seems cost no object sometimes when we are at the garden centre or nursery sometimes, but at least on here, you can usually see them growing before you buy...!!! :D
