My Garden

My garden is about one third of any acre divided into three sections; acceptable, informal and wild. I spend as much time in my garden as work and family commitments allow. My favourite plants are scented flowers and shrubs. I also love herbs because of their different scents. I think fragrance is so important when choosing a plant. I wouldn't buy a rose, however beautiful if it had no smell. The soil in my garden is heavy clay and I still garden by trial and error. I also have lots of containers for plants that do not tolerate the soil.
This picture was taken from the middle section of my garden looking back towards the house. We have two little ponds both ornamental with waterfalls no fish but lots of frogs. I have a little camomile lawn next to the sunken pond (chosen for its scent of course) :D

The plants next to the pond are rudbekias which were mystery seedlings. They grew to an enormous size and it was only when the first one flowered that I identified them. They have all been pulled up now because I don't like shades of yellow or orange in my garden (with the possible exception of primroses and daffodils in the Spring.
I prefer pink, blue and white. I think they're far easier on the eye. It's strange that the things that thrive are always in the colour I most dislike.

 

I've been in the garden today, taking pictures, while my husband cut the laurel hedge with a friend. You can tell what type of gardener I am....
We've always shared the duties - he's bricks and works, I'm parks and gardens but the laurel hedge is about 12 feet high and I'm not good on ladders.....
Not much out now the summer is coming to a close but I did capture some late roses. I'll have to try and introduce some autumn/winter colour in the garden.

I planted this climbing rose Penny Lane last year and it has been super. The fragrance is glorious and the flowers such a delicate shade of pink.

I've given this Buff Beauty pillar rose a good haircut and it has rewarded me with a few late blooms. It was a mass of blossom in early June but the rain spoiled the flowers.

This fern has doubled in size this year. I've lots of ferns but this one seems happiest.

The dodgy looking fella is Titan my shepherd boy. I bought him with some money refunded from a Titan holiday that was disappointing. He looks great with snow on his hat.
