My old trainers bit the dust unfortunately. The lad and I found an adventure playground and of course I've a lot heavier and less flexible than the lad, so my trainers took the punishment, and were effectively destroyed.

It gets worse, I stood in dog poo yesterday and that's how I found out that the soles had split. So today I decided to get myself a new cheap pair of trainers. Bare in mind I'm not into sport, so I just needed something comfortable for knocking about in.

In the local cheapo shoe shop, I came across these for £25.

Nice comfy trainers, yet robust enough for working in the garden. Apparently the steal toe caps will withstand 1.5 metric tonnes of force on them, but I have no intention of trying to prove that.

Navy blue with bright yellow details.

I notice on the proper website they are listed as out of stock, but they're on Amazon and eBay too if you're after some.

Unfortunately they are blokey ones, so would be too big.

Im going trainer shopping tomorrow. Going to be a bad day for the missus, as I have to look at every pair and inevitably will come away with 2 or 3 pairs.

The last time I owned and wore a pair of trainers was in 1985!!

The closest to trainers I wear is cycling shoes, and that isn't very often. I even wear, what my wife calls, my good shoes for gardening in. My brogues are knackered now since I painted my fences!!! :snork:

I seem to remember that you asked about trainers not so long ago - but it was probably someone else on here :old: :heehee:

I wear trainers all the time (on chiropodist's recommendation) and always loved my Hitech Silver Shadow :dbgrtmb:. They went out of production for a time but were brought back by popular demand. :dancy:

For me they are very good. Comfortable to wear, not too 'in your face' and cheap - between £20-£30

It was me that asked, and I remember you telling me that Hi Tech were still going, when I thought they'd finished.

Based on that discussion, I did actually order a pair a hi tech trainers online, as soon as I discovered that my old ones had completely retired. They've now arrived, but after ordering, I realised that I faced a whole weekend without trainers, so I went out and also bought the ones I mentioned at the start:)

The hi tech ones have since arrived, so now I have two new pairs of cheapo trainers, which is great, because even if you add the price of both pairs together, its still a lot less than many people would pay for a single pair:dbgrtmb:

I think with trainers if you pay a bit extra they can last years.

I have a pair which I've had since I was about 20.. so 4 years and I still wear them sometimes!

I'm not sure about that. I think you're simply paying for the popularity of the name.

Not really! I used to think the same with jeans, buying a cheap pair that lasted a year. But when I was 16 I bought a pair of jeans for £100 (Pepe Jeans) and they lasted me until I was 21! Same applies for a lot of things, and quality does last.

My HiTechs are worn almost every day of the year - on the advice of the chiropodist - and last years. The only reason I stopped using the last pair was because I couldn't get them clean enough after more than three years of continuous wear. The most I've ever paid for them has been £24.99 - less than 5p per day.:dbgrtmb:

The pair I'm about to order (HiTech Silver Shadow) are advertised at £21.80 with free postage. The quality is good but I'm not sure how fashionable they are :)

The longest lasting pair of trainers I had lasted 4 years, and were pretty much my only footwear for that time. I wore them to school, until I left school of course (and still had them). I wore them for knocking about in. I wore them for climbing trees and I was wearing them when I crashed my off road motorbike (on private land with permission to be there) and smashed my foot.

Those trainers took severe punishment, and yet still lasted 4 years. They were cheapo Dunlops.
