I have had two apple trees for four years. this year the fruit was in abundance on both trees. they were supported by 2x2 wooden supports. this evening i was in the back garden checking on my sweetpeas as we have had very strong winds and strong gusts of winds here in central Scotland, i was standing next to the smaller of the apple trees when these very strong gusts of wind started, the smaller tree snapped at the very bottom almost just above the roots ,grass level. after the shock i inspected what had caused the tree to snap this way. i had the tree as i said supported by 2x2s
i had plastic bands around the tree and fixed onto the 2x2s, they had both snapped:(
as i said the tree was heavy with fruit and only being about 8ft the strain must have been too much for the base and the winds breaking the plastic supports down it came:( i have reinforced the other tree with extra supports seems to be ok:)
oh the joys of gardening. the tree is now gone and plan B is i have planted a new rose called ( SIMPLY THE BEST) this was a present from my daughter on fathers day.
when one door opens another one shuts. music:cool:

Hi Ziggy Searchfield .unfortunately the fruit was not ripe enough :(. the worst part is the four years of tending the tree to get it so full of fruit and in a couple of seconds its Gone :(.
but that is gardening lots of disappointments and lots of pleasure:). music:cool:
