My next door neighbour has offered me a cutting from this but I'm not sure what it is. Could someone help identify it so I can check on how to proceed?
    Many thanks

It's Valerian, it spreads by seed, I dont think cuttings root, but might be wrong.
It can become a pest self seeding readily, but ok if you cut the dead flowers off before they form seeds.

      Aparently cutting can be taken,

Sorry but this is Centranthus ruber...also called red valerian

        Very different from Valeriana officinalis.

        Blinking common names causing confusion!

As for how to proceed, put it in a dustbin bag, place in car, drive for minimum 50 miles, place bag in someone's dustbin, drive home. It might not succeed in following you

I like it:dunno: I have it in a large pot in very poor compost/sand/grit as it likes good drainage. It reminds me on my Fishing "expeditions" around Rutland and Peterborough where it can be found growing naturally in the stone walls around the gardens and Cottages and adds to the character and charm of the Villages:coffee:

I grow it as I like red in the garden, but I treat it the same as aquilegia, I dead head before it can go to seed........it always succeeds though

It self seeds. So it can become an invader. To prevent this. Remove the flower heads before they seed. I like it.
