Some Idiot in the village has just got himself a new motorbike which he thinks is a good idea to drive thru at 60/70mph.

Just heard him screaming past & now he's on the other side of the valley, terrifiying moo cows with it.

There was a bloke that did the same about 10 years ago, his Mrs pushes him about in a wheelchair now after he lost his leg coming off the bike. He looks so tree'd off with life.

How much longer for this one I wonder?

There is a bloke that drives round warrington on a super bike. He has one arm and one leg and still would beat me at a game of pool. He lost the arm and leg in a bike crash but still rides and pretends his crash has not really bothered him but after a few beers It's obvious it has...think he was speeding and just got his licence :(

It only takes one person to open there car door without thinking and he's a gonner. It's happened quite a lot on the island, even though most of us are bike conscious.

As I posted on Sheals thread ages ago

Currently there is a glut of dead 67 year olds, here in Fife but I expect across the country
Men aged 65+ retire, and go buy cash with the lump sum the bike they always wanted but could not afford when they were 17
There only experience is with a Honda 50cc, but they go and buy the Suzuki gt1500, or the BMW 1000 SPORT
They usually last about six months max, mostly dead, but a few paraplegic

The latest one was a company owner of a large lorry fleet, retired and gave the business to his daughter,
Day two took the bike out for a burn, and at 120mph on a long straight the old 84year old in her Ford car coming towards him did not indicate and turned right, Gone deed, every day the paper has a similar story in the highlands, nice weaving country roads to roar along

I gave up my bikes in 1999.
Having got over the "Carl Foggarty who's he?" phase in one piece (lord knows how) I gave up because I had enough of car drivers trying to kill me instead.

Yep, you're right Jack! They are called born again bikers!

The problem with a lot of these riders is, they don't realise how the bikes speed and power has changed down the years since they first rode.

Also there are 300% more cars on the roads and driving standards have not improved :(
Now packed up bikes and stick to my landy.

It was car drivers who convinced me to quit too.

But in my 16 years on bikes they changed so much, not just in terms of speed and power, but also in handling, grip and braking.
I started off with an unrestricted AP50 which could do just over 60mph. A year later I had an RD350lc which was an incredible step! When I finished I was on an R1 - a ballistic missile! But the shear amount of traffic, poor driving and speed cameras took the fun out of it.

And yes, I do feel lucky to have got away with just one crash - the first time my old AP seized
              on me!
