I bought a eyepiece on E-Bay for my Telescope on Thursday and the seller sent it on the same day Registered Post. So not wanting to be out when it arrived and needed to be signed for on [hopefully] Friday I asked my neighbour to take it for me because I would be taking my Sister shopping and wouldn't be able to sign for it myself.....while leaving a note on my door for the Postie.
It didn't arrive on the Friday so I checked when I got back home on the Royal Mail Tracker, having already done so on the Thursday after getting an e-mail from the Seller telling me that they'd posted it. The Tracker just said as before "We have collected your item and it is being processed for delivery". I kept checking the Tracker through out Friday still getting the same message. This morning I checked again and still had the same message "We have collected your item and it is being processed for delivery":gaah: Now I rarely complain but this time I was definitely "irked" by the uselessness of the Tracker and so after checking again for any updates and still the same message I started writing a complaint via the Track site. There's a knock on the door while I writing and "Lo and Behold" [Yes, you've guessed it] it's my friendly Postie with the Registered Parcel and yet the Tracker is still saying it's being processed for delivery. I told the Postie what had happened, [it's not his fault!!], and he grimaced and groaned "We've told "Them" time and again about it and yet nobody has done anything about it". So I finished off the complaint by telling them I had had no real tracking information throughout the parcels journey to me and that it had taken two days to get to me despite it being a Registered Parcel.:wallbanging:
When I have parcels sent to me via Couriers I have always been able to track the actual Courier delivering the parcel and know exactly where he is, how many drops he has before he gets to me, and when he will get to me. I know the Royal Mail can't be that exact with information but some meaningful and up to date information would be better received than basically none at all, otherwise why have the Tracker other than to frustrate the Customer!!:dunno::coffee:

Yep, I guess that's what "tempered" my temper, so to speak!! I was relieved to get the eyepiece...... but now have to wait for some clear skies before I can use it!!:coffee: But it's pointless and damaging to offer something that basically doesn't work or is inaccurate!!:wallbanging:

Don't see why not. When the parcel's barcode is "seen" at a particular location then that could easily trigger an update of "Status"

Maybe the barcode was either damaged on your parcel, or missed the seeing-eye-scanner on its travels for some reason.

            Agreed, Kristen.:snork:

Nope, the Postie used his scanner on the doorstep for me to sign which means his data was correct and that the bar code must have been sound but that the Tracker hadn't been updated. I'm not familiar with their scanning procedures but it sounds like there are two parallel data systems that aren't linked.:dunno::wallbanging::heehee:

Whenever I've had anything coming from Royal Mail, the tracking thing has always worked fine. Last one was a while ago mind. Could it be that since privatisation its gone down the pan?

In any case, I can't see the Royal Mail lasting too much longer really. As the prices keeping rising and the quality of service keeps falling, while other companies are doing a much better job at a lower price, and more comms is going online. Soon there'll only be the conventional paper letter left for them to deliver, but as business comms are increasingly done via email or their own web portals, and hardly anyone writes personal letters any more since social media and cheap mobiles came into being, I think RM will soon be stuffed.

Its a shame really, but whether state owned or private, they just seem completely unable to move with the times.
