My opticians are located in Oxford city centre, only 15 minutes walk away, and I'm due for an eye test, so intend combining the two midweek sometime soon (noted that now closed Mon mornings).

Was there much else in bloom? (I always carry a 3rd party external usb charger and a power bank these days).

Brilliant LongK - I am amazed there was so much in flower at this time of the year.

I very much enjoyed my trip there with you in the summer, and would love to go there again - but it's some distance away. Does Cambridge have a comparable Botanic Garden?

Another visit to the gardens on Saturday whilst the weather was reasonable and there was plenty to see.
The Orangery was heavy with the scent of citrus blooms and Trachelospermum asiaticum............

Lovely LongK - thank you for the pictures, longk may they continue. I really enjoyed our meeting last year at these botanic gardens. So much so that I am going to take up the suggestion of @NigelJ and book myself on a day trip to Cambridge to see how it compares.

The flowers of Paulownia tomentosa form in the autumn and whilst they are largely hardy over an average winter late hard frosts when they are approach being fully formed will cause them to blast. This year that has been the case in Oxford and as a result the only flowers to survive are on the lower branches............

It's a shame as when the whole tree is blooming it is truly spectacular.

It does look good - I never realised that. Sal sent me some seeds a couple of years ago, but I never got them to germinate - they needed 80F (27C) or more, which was not easy.
