Hi all, my father-in-law has just returned from Ibiza and brought a little present; a packet of Palm seeds (Livistonia), has anyone got any tips for the best chance of successful germination. All it says on the packet is soak for 24 hours. According to the pack it says they were packaged in June of this year...

    Thanks in advance :dbgrtmb:

Friend of mine , grow palms for living and he showed me how to pre germinate , problem he is in Italy and we don`t have the right temperature for it , but it may work as well , get a clear bag , then get some moss (New zeland dry moss) moisturaze the moss with rain/pond water , mix with the seeds , put all in the bag and finally close and place it in a hot spot , he was just hang the bag on the greenhouse ceiling . (that will be the problem the hot spot ) . but it may work fine in a heated propagator.
once they germinate , just pot them.

The Chamearops I bought this summer had a whole lot of seeds.

I sowed a pot full about 2 months ago. Germination has been erratic, but a decent number have come up.

I brought back some Palm (Canary) seeds from South Africa. All I did was put them in 70% sand 30% compost, added water then put in my hot water cupboard for 2 weeks (nice and hot in there). They do not need light to germinate. The larger and greener (fresher) the seed the higher the germination rate. Simple.
