Pal, that sounds ridiculous  . Did they give a reason and how far do you have to go for the interview?

I'll send Mrs shiney with you as she does a brilliant impersonation of Catherine Tates old lady :thumb: :D :D

£73 + Insurance + A document check service at the PO.
We both have a 2.30 appointment in Cheltenham today.
I understand questions are asked about the info on the application form and from other sources.
I hope they ask me when my wedding day was......I will answer"On St Georges Day" and see if they know who he is..:thumb:

Sorry to hear of your problem Nick, but I heard on the radio some time last year, that future passport applicants would probably be called for an interview.I think it is since we have had these terrorist attacks.:eek:And to think that some of the terrorists in America were born and bred in this country, except they were brainwashed right from an early age that to die was an honorable thing.

I am glad in one way that Mr Kandy doesn't want to go abroad as after watching the news last night about that Quantos flight with the big hole in the side of it and the fact that they were jammed in like sardines, has put him off all, the more:eek:

I should stay here Nick and enjoy this glorious sunshine that we are having, well until we get the thunderstorms that is;):D

Good Luck with the interview and hope that you don't end up losing your rag with them.Just breath deeply and relax, and don't put your blood pressure up.:thumb:

Is this interview for first time passport holders only.
    Not for renewals?

I was just about to ask the same question. :)

It makes a mockery of the government stating that the high increase in the cost of passports would make everything safer and is therefore worth the 'small' increase.

What about the extra cost of travelling to and from the interview and the lost working time . If they try that with me I shall kick up a fuss and send them a bill :D. I can't stand beaurocracy, and rip-offs. I fight both, for myself and friends, and end up in court, or using the courts, about twice a year. I have been doing this for years and haven't lost a court case yet :thumb: :D :)

The problem with things like passports is that you want your passport NOW and can't afford to spend a lot of time arguing over it .

It's a first time passport. I suppose the checks are necessary in these times but I know full well they have access to my 'files' (because I was contacted and told there was a search on me) and could save us all the time and trouble just by reading them and comparing the data!
Anyway...we can only wait and see. I just hope the interviewer doesn't have a strange accent

I had the same thing over here 2 years ago getting my new passport, fortunately without the interview part. What a cheek that is!

Passports are not renewed any more, they are issued for 10 years right at the beginning and then you must get a new one.

Good luck, Paladin, got my fingers crossed for you. :thumb:

Pal, glad it went OK for you. Just read this thread though & I was speechless. Surely they can't be doing this with everyone applying for a passport. Suppose it's like a spot check.

Pity they don't care so much when employing people especially as security people/government workers:mad:

Where you off to then? Can't wish for anywhere hotter at the moment;)

    cheers

I think eveyone applying will be called in,'born and bred Englishmen ;)' included. ID fraud is the main topic of the leaflets they gave us and they were very keen to impress on us the importance of prevention.
