Are you saying there is only 1 leaf on your pear tree. If that is the case there is something wrong. A healthy tree should have flowered a few weeks ago and now have small pears and be in full leaf. Sometimes when you buy a very young tree it may not flower at all. I bought a Victoria plum and put it in last October. It had just a few flowers that I removed now it has made lots of growth and is in full leaf. I have watered it a few times because it will not have had enough time to get it's roots developed to be self sustainable. A patio 'pot' tree will need a regular watering on this very dry spell and probably through most of the summer.

plenty of leaves on it, just 1 new leaf so far, looks healthy enough, up north we have had a lot of winds could this have slowed down its growth, the weather is much warmer now i am hoping it will do better

Yes keep a eye on it and give it a feed occaisonally. Next year it will very likley be stronger and more vigorous. It has been very cold here until the last 3 weeks or so and some of my plants are off to a slow start, but are catching up now the warmer weather is finally here.

My patio pear tree died off then it started growing again and it has died again what do you think is causing this and do you think it is worth holding onto it to see if it comes back.

I don't know Rosa, I bought a set of 3 patio fruit trees, 2 apples and a pear, and only one apple is surviving. Have you checked all the usual things like too wet or too dry, roots being attacked, feeding, is it in a big enough pot, does it's graft look healthy etc.
Before you give up, check to see if the stem is green underneath the bark, if it is there's hope!
I don't know what happened to mine, they just didn't thrive.
Just noticed it's your birthday- have a great day!

It's like a lot of things, the first time you do it it's hard. How are you getting on with your camera, I am ueless at photos, very few not blurred, but digital is much easier as you can just chuck them and do more. I gave up with ordinary cameras, too expensive to get loads of children with chopped off heads and blurry landscapes! [IMG]
