plant that looks like nettle

hello,can anyone ID this purple flowering plant that looks like nettle for me please?i know its not nettle cos i bought the plant a couple of yrs ago,it grows to about 3ft and maybe 2ft spread and i have to tie it in alot or it just falls over onto ground.

 

Looks like dead nettle, lamium purpureum. It's part of the mint family.

 

thanks Liz.thats just about my stamp.oh well,i still think its bonny so will just have to try and get over the fact that i paid good money for a NETTLE :confused:

 

Does it smell? It might be catmint if you bought it, sorry I missed that bit. I think it's pretty anway.

 

I thought cat mint, I've got some and it spills out over the edge of the border. The leaves look the same too.

Rub a leaf between you fingers and see what it smells like?

Oh, good! I've been trying to get mine as big as that since I came here. As soon as the cats find it they lie on it and kill it.
I've got some in a pot now to try and let it grow big enough to withstand the loving onslaughts!
