Last year I grew some early potatoes in compost bags with fair results. I now realise I did not water the compost enough.

I am going to do the same this year but in two large pots using Charlotte seed potatoes and compost and will be more careful that they do not dry out.

Has anyone else done this and have they any tips learnt from experience?

I grow mine in an old galvanised dustbin with drainage holes in the bottom. I just use ordinary soil with a bit of bonemeal mixed in. They do need keeping wet, after all potatoes are nearly all water themselves.

Growing spuds in containers is a good way to use up spent compost. Mix in plenty of organic stuff to hold the moisture (balls of newspaper is good)but don't forget they are heavy feeders so incorporate some feed (chicken pellets for inst). I prefer small containers,so wherever I have a spare few inches of space, I can grow spuds.
