    Hi all,

I wanted to build 2 raised beds to grow veg in over the Autumn/Winter and never got around to it. What is the latest I can get them done or have I missed the boat already?

Should think you'll have plenty of time. You might not even be planting them up till late May, depending on what you decide to grow.

Sorry, hadn't looked carefully enough to realise you wanted them for THIS WINTER! It is probably too late to get anything cropping now. But if you sowed some broad beans in pots then build the beds asap, then planted them up with the beans, you would have a crop to harvest in about June - and meanwhile you could get a follow-on crop ready.

It's what I did last year. I just dug during the thaws. You soon find a knack for digging waterlogged ground and if you can leave the earth in large clods then the wind and frosts break it down till its all lovely and runny-through-the fingers like. Then mulch it ready for spring planting. We put the strawberries in in March, both one-crop and all-summer crop versions with a perspex closhe over them and they came up lovely. Lots of fruit all summer.
